For me Johnny Depp is one of the greatest, if not the greatest, actor out there at the moment but as of yet he has failed to be recognised by those movie bigwigs at the academy. I think this is a travesty. For one, he should have won an oscar for his portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Carribean. He was simply brilliant and made that movie by his weird and charasmatic acting. Depp thrives himself on playing characters that are different.
If not for Pirates then I think he deserved one for his role as DOnnie Brasco.
What does everyone else think? |

Yeah I couldnt agree more about his Captain Jack Sparrow performance. I dont think anybody other than Depp could have pulled off such a weird and funny character as Sparrow. He was hilarious throughout the entire movie. He did get a nomination for it but didnt win which I think was a tragedy. He is one of my Favourite actors at the moment as well and it is very surprising that he has yet to be recognised.
If he continues to act the way he has been then I think its only a matter of time.

| I love Johnny Depp,and not in the usual female way,he is an amazing actor who adds such depth to his films, he truely has few rivals! Personally I think he deserved an Oscar for Donnie Brasco more so than Pirates, but either way...he deserves one. I just hope that he doesn't get one simply because he hasn't had one to date and deserves one and therefore doesn't get it for his best role as has been known to happen within the academy. |

I think he put in a great performance in Ed Wood as well which many people seem to overlook.

I don't fault that, but just think that Donnie Brasco was his pinnacle performance...I liked Ed Wood, and to be honest I even liked the man as a director, his films were so bad they were almost good!!!  |

I agree! Johnny Depp was one of the excellent actors of his generation. He played all his role with justice. He is a great man who deserve to win in any award giving body, if not, he should be nominated. For the movie Pirates of the Caribbean, he played "Captain" Jack Sparrow naturally. I don't know Johnny Depp personally but watching him on that movie you're just seeing him the way he is if he's not in front of the camera.
Go Johnny, Go!
