Europe v Asia

I love Amelie and Cinema Paradiso as well as Downfall, amazing films but for sheer difference it has to be asia with some great films like Brotherhood and Zatoichi. Hero and House of the Flying Daggers are simply beautiful films. The anime Spirited Away as you said and also Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds and Akira, just amazing films with great ideas, Ghost In The Shell as well is brilliant, I don't think films like those anime ones would come out of Hollywood or Europe.

I havent seen an awful lot of foreign movies yet to give a good opinion but I have been getting alot more of them lately. I absolutely love Life Is Beautiful, I think its a brilliant movie as is Downfall. I also like Run Lola Run for some reason, its a different type of m,ovie which I like.

The Anime movies that I have seen have all been superb and like you I love Spirited Away and I think only Asian cinema could come up with such strange characters and storylines. Then there are the countless martial arts movies and some great revenge flicks like Oldboy.

At the moment I would say I like both equally as good but that could change as I see more movies.

Cinema Paradiso is a lovely movie. One of my favorites.
